Blink

Days seem to pass in a blink, weeks seem to go by just like a gust of wind, fast, but making its presence felt, have been making paneer dishes all this time, when i put a morsel of that paneer dish in my mouth, it feel like i m sitting in an a/c restaurant in India, but as soon as i lift my head and eyes point the view outside the window, i see the two of Coventry’s three spires and realise that I am far away from that a/c restaurant. Its a mixed feeling, i feel like smiling at one moment with the taste of the food i make, and something else when i look out of the window at the other. That cloud blotted view of the two spires, sometimes covered with fog, and the yellowness of the paneer makhanwala i am eating spread on a plate full of rice. All this happens in a blink, less than a second. Has any one of you felt this before?

Christmas is here!

It was here long back, almost a month before now, shops being decorated, and people getting into holiday mood, where have i been? i have been trying to finish off my work so that i can enjoy a bit till 7th of Jan in the New Year!
As a kid, i used to open the freezer compartment in my kitchen refrigerator during the summer and stand there till mom discovered me or i felt too cold. Here theres no need of doing that, cause its -3°C all the time, with fog since last three days, and when i breathe, it feels exactly like the freezer compartment back home. Its freezing out here. And no, its not snowing  yet, will snow in end of January or February.
Happy Holidays to you all, and a wonderful new year ahead !

Adhoc Fried Noodles

Heres a recipe for you people, try it, its not that difficult, and its not thermodynamics or rocket science!

  1. cook spaghetti in boiling water for 12 minutes
  2. heat oil in pan
  3. put chopped garlic in heated oil
  4. add chopped onion
  5. add pepper (capsicum)
  6. any other vegetable which u might find suitable
  7. add the spaghetti to all this
  8. Italian Passata sauce, or tomato puree with onions and garlic paste
  9. add salt to taste
  10. may be soya sauce, if u wish to
  11. garam masala, a little
  12. cook well

I have named it adhoc because i didn’t go in the kitchen with a mindset of making it. It was just simple spaghetti in sauce which i had in mind, i just happened to chop onions and put oil in the vessel, to try something new ! sometimes, boredom makes me cook awesome dishes.
And i am not putting up a pic of this because its adhoc, u might get a different colour, so don’t get dissappointed, its adhoc, off the cuff!!

Flashback to a recent time

Lets go back a few days, one and a half month back, to be precise…the day was 8th of October. I woke up early as i had a my first lecture of the first module. I brushed my teeth, and went out and saw some one get into a room that was unoccupied for 2 weeks since i was staying. In fact, 2 rooms were empty in the entire flat of 6 rooms. I thought some one might have moved in. I had a bath, got ready and went in the kitchen to make my breakfast, slightly pissed because of being alone when i am at home. Some one was heating water for tea, and as i entered, it looked like an Indian had moved in. We said hello and introduced our selves. Well, he was an Indian, and he had moved in with his cousin, and the entire flat was full with 6 people, including me. Right from that moment, it stopped feeling alone, that “pissed off” feeling vanished !! From that day we have been good friends, and we make dinner together too !! Well, I thank God for sending these two people to Coventry, or else i would have been very much bored than i was on that day, and gone are the days of having dinner alone !!

Two Months completed in Coventry

Its been two months since i have been in Coventry. I really didn’t want to write this sentence on my blog, but fact is “I am busy”. Heres my usual routine: Mornings, start making breakfast, usually its tea and toast butter or jam, and sometimes wheat flakes. Then a cold walk to the college, lecture upto one o clock, with a break halfway, then lecture again after lunch, upto five o clock, if its a full day. Or, its assignments whole day and then talking to mom and dad in the evening upto 6 o clock. Eight o clock is cooking time again, spagetti or some kinda rice usually, but yeah, i do cook dosa or pudla once in a while, my flat-mates are south Indians, and they make awesome original sambhar, without using any of that sambhar powder!! No one works here on weekends. Saturday is working day for me, with laundrette work, and some grocery shopping if required. Yeah i am online almost all day, yeah i do chat with friends, but thats all i do along with studying and writing assignments. Christmas nearing, lets see how it goes by.
bye for now, have to fold my clothes.

TV and Timestamp notice

I haven’t watched television from the 17th of September 2007.

The timestamps you see on all my posts, well they will remain India Time and you can calculate what time it was when i actually wrote the post in GMT by subtracting -5:30 hours from the Timestamp.

of burnt cabbage and perfect pudla

well, so…. hello. Yes, a proper, Hello !

After two weeks of landing in the United Kingdom, i have finally begun to settle down. The first week was International Students’ welcome week, where i met new people, and enjoyed a bit. Went to the Warwick Castle, and last Friday, i shifted to my term time accommodation, where i started to settle down, well, atleast for an year now.

The last week (second week in the UK) was Induction week, where we got to know a few of our professors and the way studies will take place. and this Friday Saturday and Sunday was cooking induction for me, and i am quite happy that…well…I CAN COOK !!!

Made cabbage for dinner on Friday, Mixed vegetable Kolhapuri for lunch on Saturday and pudla for dinner. 1% of the cabbage got burnt cause i used the wrong vessel for cooking it, but yesterdays pudla (thin pan cakes of onion+tomato in gram flour) were perfect. And as every one knows, it takes time to achieve perfection (perfection ko improve karne me time lagta hai).
